Rolf Palm
1930 - 2018

Rolf Bertil Ingolf Palm was a respected Swedish ceramist and illustrator, known for his distinctive contributions to twentieth-century Scandinavian ceramics. Born and later based in Höganäs, Palm developed a personal ceramic language grounded in craftsmanship, experimentation and a deep engagement with the material qualities of stoneware.

Palm gained early recognition through exhibitions at Höganäs Museum in 1958, where he showed work together with Yngve Blixt, and later at Olai Konstsalong in Norrköping in 1960 alongside Rune Svensson. He also participated in several group exhibitions arranged by Höganäs Konstförening, including the Kulla-konst shows, stoneware exhibitions at Höganäs Museum and the spring salons of Helsingborgs Konstförening at Vikingsbergs Konstmuseum.

As a ceramist Palm worked primarily with unique stoneware, often finished with his characteristic oxblood glaze. His artistic production includes miniature vessels, sculptural vases and humorous small figurines, all of which demonstrate a playful sensitivity to form and surface. Alongside his ceramic work he produced expressive croquis drawings, revealing his broader artistic interests and command of line and gesture.

Palm’s pieces are represented in several public collections, including Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, a testament to his significance within Swedish ceramic tradition. He remained closely connected to his hometown throughout his life and is laid to rest at the memorial garden of Höganäs churchyard.
