Modernity returns to TEFAF New York at the Park Avenue Armory, from 9–13 May 2025.
For our sixth appearance at the fair, we are bringing a carefully curated selection of Nordic design, featuring exceptional works by Josef Frank, Frits Henningsen, Carl Malmsten, Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Wilhelm Kåge, and others.
Among the highlights is a rare pair of “Flora” chests of drawers by Josef Frank. Designed in the 1930s for Svenskt Tenn, model 1050 is crafted in mahogany and decorated with hand-printed paper featuring botanical illustrations from Nordens Flora by C.A. Lindman. The Flora chest of drawers reflects Frank’s early influences from his time with Haus & Garten in Vienna, where he explored nature-inspired motifs. Around the same period, Svenskt Tenn founder Estrid Ericson developed her own fascination with botanical imagery—sparked by antique prints and a formative visit to Carl von Linné’s Hammarby estate in 1930. Their shared interest in the natural world culminated in one of Svenskt Tenn’s most iconic designs.
It is exceptionally rare to encounter a matching pair of these chests, both bearing the same rich, time-earned patina. We are proud to present them at TEFAF New York 2025.
Also on view will be an exceptionally scarce pair of Frits Henningsen wingback chairs, a “Meadows” rug by Märta Måås-Fjetterström originally created for the M/S Kungsholmen, striking lighting by Paavo Tynell commissioned for Hotel Seurahuone, and a pair of rare ceiling lamps by Harald Notini—among other important works.
Modernity is exhibiting at Booth 390 in the Drill Hall, and we would be delighted to welcome you. Whether you’re planning your visit or already exploring the fair, we look forward to walking you through the booth and sharing the stories behind these remarkable works.
