Modernity exhibits at the PAD fair in Paris

2 – 6 April 2025

Modernity is delighted to return to PAD Paris, exhibiting once again in the Jardin des Tuileries for the first time since 2016. The fair runs from 2–6 April and brings together leading international galleries in a celebration of art and design.

At PAD Paris 2025, Modernity presents a carefully curated selection of Nordic design by some of the twentieth century’s most influential names, including Paavo Tynell, Alvar Aalto, Hans Wegner, Josef Frank, Axel Einar Hjorth, MMF and Wilhelm Kåge.

Among the highlights is Wellpappskåpet, a cabinet designed by Josef Frank in 1954. With its ribbed, green-lacquered iconic front, mahogany interior and solid walnut legs. Nearby, a characterful sidetable from Hjorths Utö series—illustrates his refined use of solid pine, a material chosen for its durability and warmth, echoing the atmosphere of Swedish summer cabins.

Also on view is an early example of Axel Einar Hjorth’s iconic shelf Funkis, designed in 1930 and made the following year by Nordiska Kompaniet. Featuring two leather-clad tiers, contrasting black feet and circular studs along the sides, the piece reflects the period’s transition from classical to functionalist ideals.
Lighting is an important focus this year. A standout is the Snowflake chandelier by Paavo Tynell—an airy, sculptural work made up of 48 individual flakes that create a subtle, shimmering effect as light dances across the room.

Wilhelm Kåge is represented with a striking Argenta vase, its rich green glaze offset by hand-painted silver detailing. This particular piece features a snake motif, a powerful symbol of eternity and renewal, and is among the most recognisable of the series.

Modernity is exhibiting at Booth 41, and we would be delighted to welcome you. Whether you're planning your visit or already exploring the fair, we look forward to walking you through the booth and sharing more about these remarkable works.
