The estate of the artist.

Working in a purely geometric, non-figurative style, Sven Hansson was a Swedish painter who is now represented in various collections, including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. His gouache, oil, and relief pieces throughout the 1970s to late 90s are quietly expressive forms of contemporary art, on occasion using vibrant colour, many examples are executed in pure white and therefore rely on natural light and the resulting shadows.

After the closure of Konstruktiv Tendens, Stockholm’s main gallery for non-figurative, minimalist, and constructivist art, in 2009, Hansson was disillusioned with the art market and sold very little work. After his death in 2014, the family found a large body of previously unexhibited work in the artist’s atelier. All of the works in Modernity’s collection come from Sven Hansson’s family.
