Tray table designed by Astrid Sampe for Nordiska Kompaniet,
Sweden, 1960's.

Stamped.

Lacquered wood.

The graphic design of this foldable tray table’s laminated fabric surface is both aesthetically appealing and historically significant. Astrid Sampe was a highly regarded textile designer; she was the head of Sweden’s famous department store Nordiska Kompaniet’s textile section in the 1950s and 60s.
Sampe created this monochrome pattern at a time when black and white designs were becoming increasingly popular. The round tray rests on elegant leather straps, and the base of the table was probably made at NK’s own workshops. All parts are in stunning condition. There is no paint loss whatsoever on the lacquered wood of the solid drumstick legs.
