The name “Oktober” was chosen to honour autumn, as a time of gathering indoors, when smaller, movable tables become more useful for tea, reading, or lamp light in Swedish homes.
This modest design was crafted for functionality. Malmsten himself favoured the 'Oktober' tables as they were small enough to move around during lectures at his design school—sometimes using them as improvised podiums or even to prop up a slide projector.
