Description:

This model embodies the practicality and clarity that defined Swedish design of the early 1930s. Conceived for summer houses and coastal retreats, the Corall series was intended to harmonize with natural surroundings — its very name evoking the sea. Crafted in birch with rattan details, the design emphasizes durability and the use of honest, organic materials.

By the mid-1930s, as Hjorth approached the end of his tenure at Nordiska Kompaniet, his work increasingly focused on accessibility and function. Moving beyond the Art Deco influences of his earlier pieces, the Corall series illustrates this transition toward a more restrained, modernist idiom — a hallmark of Swedish Modernism.
