Description:

The ‘Superellipse’ dining table, designed by Bruno Mathsson in collaboration with Piet Hein during the 1960s, is an icon of Scandinavian modern design. Its distinctive superelliptical shape masterfully combines the functional clarity of a rectangle with the soft harmony of an ellipse, a form originally developed by Piet Hein to solve the complex traffic design at Stockholm’s Sergels Torg. Recognizing the form’s potential for furniture design, Bruno Mathsson adapted it into one of the most celebrated dining tables of the modern era. The table features Mathsson’s patented tension-leg system, which gives the piece its characteristic lightness and structural integrity, while maintaining a sense of effortless elegance. Produced in various sizes and finishes, the Superellipse table has become a timeless symbol of Scandinavian design, admired for its mathematical precision, practical functionality, and sculptural beauty.
