Sumi ink on paper
Rune Hagberg (1924–2015) was a self-taught Swedish artist known for his meditative, Zen-influenced approach to painting, drawing, and sculpture. Born in Uppsala and later based in Härnösand, he emerged as a key figure in the Scandinavian “spontanism” movement of the 1950s. His work explores silence, introspection, and the gradual dissolution of the surface, often reflecting Eastern calligraphy and Zen Buddhist principles.
