Description:

This set of eight dining chairs, model 123 by Brockmann Petersen, is a fine expression of Scandinavian modern design at its most inviting. Each chair features a sculpted, curved backrest that flows seamlessly into the arms, creating an enveloping form that supports the sitter while visually softening the geometry of the dining room. The seats are upholstered in patinated leather that has developed a rich surface over time, adding warmth and character to the otherwise restrained silhouette.

Brockmann-Petersen’s barrel-back armchairs for Poul Jeppesen show his way of working with form and structure. With a background in both carpentry and architecture, he treated furniture as carefully planned, human-scaled construction. The curved back is shaped as a single, continuous element, and the frame beneath it is kept light and clear, creating a balanced and quietly expressive chair.

Poul Jeppesen Møbelfabrik produced the design, a workshop known for its attention to detail and careful woodwork. Because Brockmann-Petersen worked in relatively small quantities, his pieces for Jeppesen are not often seen, but are appreciated for their thoughtful proportions and the clarity of their construction.

The barrel-back armchairs offer an opportunity to explore a lesser-known part of Danish furniture history, where measured design and good craftsmanship come together in a modest, well-composed form.
