Pyramid mahogany with birch edging & brass handles.
Crafted in pyramid mahogany with birch edging and finished with refined brass handles, this Model 2106 sideboard was designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn in the 1950s. The piece reflects Frank’s humanist approach to design—prioritizing warmth, natural materials, and expressive form over the strict rationalism that defined much of mid-20th-century modernism.
The design features a clean yet organic profile, subtly softened by the grain patterns of the pyramid-cut mahogany. The contrast between the warm-toned mahogany veneer and the lighter birch edging enhances the piece’s visual rhythm, while the understated brass fittings underscore its timeless elegance.
Josef Frank (1885–1967) was an Austrian-Swedish architect and designer, widely celebrated for redefining the language of modern furniture through his collaboration with Svenskt Tenn. After co-founding the Vienna-based firm Haus & Garten, Frank relocated to Sweden in the 1930s. There, he joined forces with Estrid Ericson, shaping the house style of Svenskt Tenn—one that deliberately rejected rigid functionalism in favour of softer, more organic design principles rooted in comfort, individuality, and nature.
