Description:

This unique glass vase by Per B. Sundberg, created during his time at Orrefors, exemplifies his ongoing investigation into organic form, material surface, and the boundaries of decorative art. Characterised by a biomorphic silhouette and a matte finish, the vase features a series of smooth, sculptural protrusions that suggest anatomical references or abstracted natural growth. Each rounded form is punctuated by black-and-white circular motifs that visually resemble stylised eyes or targets, introducing a surreal, almost uncanny quality to the piece. The surface treatment and visual contrasts invite close examination, highlighting Sundberg’s ability to manipulate glass beyond traditional expectations of transparency and polish. This work reflects his signature approach to contemporary Swedish art glass — blurring the line between sculpture and vessel, function and fiction — and stands as a distinct example of early 21st-century Scandinavian studio glass that challenges the conventions of form, meaning, and ornament.
