Glass.
This Tulip vase, designed by Nils Landberg for Orrefors in 1957, is a quintessential example of mid-century Swedish glass design. Hand-blown in deeply toned crystal, the vase rises from a wide, fluid base into an impossibly slender stem, opening into a softly rounded tulip-shaped body. The continuous, unbroken line from foot to rim gives the piece an almost weightless character, as if the glass has been gently drawn upward in a single movement.
Landberg was celebrated for his ability to achieve extraordinary thinness and balance in glass, and this vase demonstrates that mastery with its refined proportions and elegant silhouette. The dark, smoky hue enhances the verticality of the form and creates subtle shifts of light within the surface.
